Have I mentioned I despise the Catholic Church?

A story titled “Catholic Students shun vaccine” is on the front page of the Calgary Herald today.

Less than 20 per cent of Calgary Catholic students targeted in a provincial campaign to combat cervical cancer received a human papilloma virus vaccination after their school district opted out of the controversial program this fall.

So only 20% of girls in the Catholic schools are receiving the vaccine while about 70% of girls in public schools will be.  And the reason…

The Calgary Catholic School District was one of at least 10 boards in Alberta that decided last fall not to allow the HPV vaccine to be given in separate schools, saying the shots send the wrong message about premarital sex.

Which is so ridiculously stupid!  I have received tetanus vaccine but I don’t run around stabbing myself with chunks of dirty metal just because I can.

Give the girls the shot and let them decide when to have sex for themselves.

Presumably, in a few decades, a number of these girls will die from preventable cervical cancer because of their school’s, and their parent’s, adherence to some stupid dogma from one of the biggest, dumbest, organizations on the planet.

The more I learn about the Catholic church the more I despise it.
